About Darcy McCrae

Darcy McCrae, born in 1989 in Mullumbimby, is a self-taught Australian artist who has established himself as a prominent figure in the realm of contemporary art. Currently based between the Northern Rivers and the Gulf of Carpentaria in Queensland. Drawing inspiration from traditional and contemporary art, McCrae's creations reflect a vibrant and naive aesthetic that captivates viewers. His artistic repertoire encompasses a wide range of subjects, including figuration, landscape, and still life. With a bold approach to composition and a preference for acrylic as his medium of choice, he skillfully combines traditional subject matter with his unique style. His artistic process often begins with small studies and sketches, which come to life within the intimate confines of his studio, nestled within an old mechanic's shed. The secluded beauty of the Northern NSW hinterland serves as both a haven and a wellspring of inspiration for McCrae. Surrounded by the serene landscapes and enveloped in the tranquility of his surroundings, he finds solace and motivation to push the boundaries of his artistic practice further. Renowned for his commitment to producing honest and original paintings, McCrae continues to push the boundaries of his craft. His dedication to capturing the essence of his subjects in a bold and expressive manner resonates with audiences, establishing him as an artist to watch. In the dynamic realm of contemporary art, Darcy McCrae stands as a testament to the power of self-expression and artistic exploration.
