About Kirstin Berg

Kirstin creates immersive environments by combining and manipulating unconventional materials such as fire and ash, clothing, bush debris and hard rubbish. These become epic works of sculptural ephemera. Her practice fuses painting, drawing and sculpture, through which she expresses her concern for environmental and human crisis, and the redemption found in transforming our losses. Kirstin has worked for many years as a youth mentor. Most significantly, she has facilitated trauma informed art classes for adolescents held in youth custody. This contribution has greatly influenced her practice and consolidated her belief in art as a powerful tool for educational, social and cultural repair. Currently living and working between Melbourne and Berlin, Kirstin has exhibited extensively in Australia and internationally, (including, Prague, Berlin and Barcelona). Her work is held in significant collections including the National Gallery of Victoria, Artbank, and Parliament House Canberra, and is also represented in numerous private collections within Australia, Europe and America.
