About Mandy Francis

Mandy Francis' art-making is underpinned by her longstanding intrigue in sight, shadows and perspective. Mandy’s still-life works capture the everyday: plant cuttings in glass bottles, collected hand made ceramics, her dog, the sun that beams through onto the kitchen table, the pots and pans left over from the night before, and the outdoor table where she has her coffee each morning. Beyond her Fine Art degree (majoring in sculpture), from the NAS, Sydney, Mandy has also undertaken research at the University of Newcastle, completing a Masters and a Doctor of Philosophy, where she specialised in public sculpture and installation art. Over 18 years, Mandy’s career as a sculptor and installation artist, has led her to art residencies in Japan and Australia, including remote communities in the central desert, NT, and Artspace, Sydney. Mandy is a five time exhibitor at Bondi’s 'Sculpture By The Sea', and has exhibited and curated her own solo exhibitions at Tin Sheds, Sydney, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney and The Lock-up Cultural Centre, Newcastle. Mandy has completed in-depth theoretical research thesis titled 'Thoughts on Shadows' 2007, a thesis titled ' Material Poetry' 2016, and published a paper titled 'The Social Artist' 2017. She has presented her work and research at conferences across Australia, and most recently in Paris, France. In her art-making, Mandy's most recent focus lies in painting and drawing.
