Press Pause invites viewers to slow down and look closely, finding quiet beauty in the objects that shape a life. Jeremy Eden pairs the fleeting delicacy of flowers with the durable relics of his own nostalgiabooks, comics, toys, artworks and cherished keepsakes. These arrangements speak to the emotional weight of the familiar, and to the ways objects become repositories of memory.

Each painting is a subtle self‑portrait. Rather than depicting himself directly, Eden reveals a constellation of passions and personal histories through the things he collects. In doing so, he dissolves the boundary between still life and portraiture: objects become stand‑ins for identity, sentiment and lived experience.

Rendered with technical finesse and a deep attentiveness to light and surface, Press Pause becomes a meditation on why we hold onto things, and how, in their ordinariness, they become vessels for time, emotion and quiet transformation.

Jeremy Eden (b. Sydney 1988) completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at Queensland College of Art in 2015 and earlier received the Marie Ellis OAM Prize for Drawing. Based in Sydney, Eden is known for his highly observed oil portraits and still‑life compositions that merge personal narrative with classical technique. His work has been a finalist in the prestigious Archibald Prize multiple times (2021/2022/2025) and in 2022 he won the ANZ People’s Choice Award for his portrait of actor Samuel Johnson. More recently, his 2025 Archibald Prize finalist portrait of young actor Felix Cameron has been described as his “most ambitious work” to date.

Eden’s work is defined by a meticulous realism infused with narrative depth, where every surface, object, and shadow conveys meaning. His rising prominence in Australia’s art scene positions him as a leading voice among the new generation of painters.
