“Two things that matter worlds apart, but equally: love and the land."
— Judith Wright
‘Love and the Land’ brings together Mandy Francis’s vibrant and whimsical explorations of life’s tender connections. Inspired by intimate moments in her garden and the natural world. Mandy paints and sculpts stories that honour natural beauty - prioritising native birds, spring flowers, and bees.
Mandy’s art process is guided by play, allowing spontaneity and experimentation to shape each piece. She draws on information and inspiration gathered from a wide range of experiences and encounters, weaving together memories, travels, and art from around the world. This eclectic approach fuels her creativity and brings fresh perspectives to every series.
Her work transforms everyday observations into a tapestry of figurative and abstract art.
Through visible movement of brushwork and considered detail, Mandy’s playful process enables her subjects—loved ones, winged visitors, and native blooms—to emerge with warmth and character.
Mandy’s career is rich with experience, from an early Fine Art degree at the National Art School, Sydney, through to a PhD from the University of Newcastle, and includes residencies in Japan, the Central Desert, and exhibitions at acclaimed venues. ‘Love and the Land’ invites viewers into a world where the wild and familiar come together in celebration of the simple joys found close to home and throughout the world.
