Malcolm Chambers
Mal Chambers is a Melbourne based Contemporary artist, known for his ability to render the subject of his painting with great detail and precision.
He uses a mix of traditional and modern techniques, and has an eye for bold, graphic compositions that fashion both soulful and striking compositions. Through his ability to find character and expression in his subjects, alongside clever titles, Mal hints at stories, ultimately left ambiguous for the viewer’s interpretation.
In his paintings, Mal is fascinated by the tension between the realism of the primary subject and the abstraction of their surroundings. He balances controlled, finer brushwork with the intuitive release of broad strokes, reflecting the two sides of the artist: craft and passion.
Mal was a semi-finalist for Lester Prize in 2020 and a finalist for Black Swan Prize in 2018. He has showcased his works in many group exhibitions across Australia, including Melbourne and Perth.
