Luca Giovagnoli
Luca Giovagnoli is an Italian-born visual artist, who lives and works between Rimini and Milan. Having always discovered whimsy in cartoons and comics, Giovagnoli's Contemporary art practice is reminiscent of a post war poetic realism, with echoes of fetish and Film Noir. In his paintings, the viewer is positioned on the periphery: the vouyeur, peeking from a distance into the forbidden scene. Giovagnoli’s protagonists exist somewhere between underbellies of the gothic and cabaret. Within their intimate, stylised settings, his figures interact through nuanced composition: their subtle yet provocative pose. They compel the outsider to observe within, all at once reminding them that ’thou-shalt-not.’ Internationally exhibited and collected, and having participated in the 54th Venice Biennial, Giovagnoli sports a seasoned and sophisticated art career.
