Mal is a Melbourne based figurative artist.
He uses a mix of traditional and modern techniques and an eye for bold, graphic compositions to create soulful but striking work.
Through his ability to find character and expression in his subjects and even the titles of his paintings Mal hints at stories which he leaves open to the view open interpretation.
Mal is also fascinated by the tension between the realism of the primary subject in his paintings and the abstraction of the surroundings, between the control of finer work to the intuitive release of the broad strokes; the two sides of the artist: craft and passion.
