About John Mangila

John Mangila recently completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at the National Art School, majoring in painting. His art practice is currently focused on contemporary abstraction, working mainly in acrylic and collage. He completed a diploma in Graphic Design from TAFE NSW in 2004. He worked as a photo shoot stylist for over ten years for publications such as Home Beautiful, Country Style and The Quintessential Magazine and brands such as Jurlique and Shibori. When not painting, Mangila works as a freelance photo shoot stylist, visual merchandiser and florist. "In 2018 I decided to go to art school because I was seduced by the idea of absolute freedom. I had worked various creative jobs- styling, visual merchandising, and floristry. I enjoyed making and being a part of producing beautiful things. But they were always guided and somewhat limited by a brief. Art proposed a way to create purely for the sake of creating. Im interested in the creative act itself and finding poetry in the materials I engage with." John Mangila recently completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at the National Art School, majoring in painting.
