Awagami Bizan Handmade Art Paper - 300gsm
A meticulously crafted handmade paper produced soley in Tokushima, Japan. The Awagami craftspeople operate on 8 generations of family knowledge and use ancient paper making techniques to meticulously produce by hand one sheet of beautiful paper at a time.
The entire range of Awagami Washi is environmentally friendly and of the highest archival quality. Rather than cutting down the trees and re-planting as is often done in today's practices, the Awagami harvesting process process is done in a similar fashion to that you would do when pruning your very own garden.
Awagami paper is harvested during the winter after the leaves drop and only the bare stalks remain. Seiromushi a special steaming process is used to make the harvest process easier allowing for a long strip of bark to be removed at one time. When the bunches are thoroughly dried, they are stored until needed.
It is Awagami’s desire to promote the beauty of Japanese washi and to proudly pass washi culture on to the next generation…. and then well on into the future.
