Ben Riding is an artist and curator that has forged a diverse practice which hybridizes genres and mediums, a practice that extends primarily from painting, installation and sculpture to the coordination of large-scale site-specific projects. In 2002 Ben earned his BA in Visual Arts at Curtin University of Technology, School of Art. Most notably Riding was a co-curator and coordinator of 'Hotel 6151' (2002), a major international multi-arts project involving more than fifty artist, theorists, performers, fashion designers, musicians and filmmakers from around the world. The success of 'Hotel 6151' gained worldwide recognition having been published throughout Australia, Madrid, France and England. Ben's experience has been broadened with national and international arts programs, awards, residencies and initiatives. Most notably, he was selected for Australia Council’s 52nd Venice Biennale, Young Curators Initiative (2009).
Ben was a finalist in last years Black Swan Portrait Prize exhibited at the Art Gallery of Western Australia. He has held a number of solo exhibitions, most recently; 'Life' (2016) at Blank Gallery, Fremantle Australia, 'New Works 09' in Berlin Germany and 'New Paintings' at Goddard de Fiddes Gallery, Perth Australia. (2006). He has also participated in various group exhibitions including; 'Paintings', Goddard de Fiddes Gallery Perth (2005); 'Black', Goddard de Fiddes Gallery (2006); 'Office 6000', Next Building, Perth (2006); Art Sydney 2005; 'Duty Free', Artshouse Gallery Perth (2005); 'Sedition', Hudson Gallery Perth (2003); 'Emerging Nine', Moora Fine Arts Gallery, Moora Australia (2002). Ben’s work is held by a number of collections including Artbank, Glick International and various private and public collection throughout Australia, United Kingdom and Germany.
